The Nissan Leaf started the foundation and expectations for automakers when it comes to electric vehicles. The Leaf has led Nissan’s electric program since 2010 when the battery electric vehicle (BEV) first debuted. Now Nissan has decided to drop the price for the 2022 Leaf by a significant amount. The New Starting price for the 2022 Leaf is $28,375 (Plus destination fee), which is a drop of $4,245 from last year. Pushing the 2022 Leaf to become the lowest price electric vehicle on the market today. Nissan also continues to add the latest technology and safety features like the all-new Nissan Leaf Canto Safety Sound, which will help the awareness of the Leaf’s presence.

The newly reduced price tag is a big part of the 2022 Nissan Leaf’s sales push to get more electric vehicles on the road to continue its path to carbon-neutrality by 2050. The leaf’s standard battery pack has a range of about 149 miles estimated driving range. For buyers looking for a bit more range, an available upgrade to the Plus trim increases that driving range to 226 miles range. Nissan also has made the CHAdeMo quick charging port standard across the entire Leaf lineup this year and will also include ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode on the SV Plus trim. Additionally, Nissan has given buyers more value by including a CHAdeMO Quick Charge Port and a portable 240-volt charging cable for every unit.

“Nissan was the first automaker with a globally-available mass-market electric vehicle and we’re continuing in the tradition of making electric vehicles available to everyone,” said Aditya Jairaj, director, EV Sales and Marketing, Nissan U.S. “With the amount of technology that LEAF offers, combined with new pricing, this is simply just an amazing value.”

The standard 2022 Nissan Leaf comes with a 147-horsepower electric motor that sends power through the front wheels. A 40.0-kWh battery pack is matched to provide the juice the 2022 Leaf needs. Leaf Plus models come with a gutsier 214-horsepower electric motor paired with a larger 62.0-kWh battery pack. Nissan says both the standard Leaf’s battery and the larger battery can be replenished on a 240-volt charger in about seven hours. A DC fast-charging connection also comes standard on all trims for a quick charge on the road. While using a DC fast-charging port buyers can charge their Nissan Leaf up to 80% in just 30 minutes.
