Nissan took a major step into the future of electric mobility making an agreement with Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) starting in 2025. The collaboration could open new doors by giving the company’s customers more possibilities and options for charging their electric vehicles. The collaboration reveals Nissan as the first Japanese automaker to announce support for future NACS projects, demonstrating its strong interest in and commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction.
The agreement to adopt the NACS charging standard gives the automaker a more unified charging infrastructure in North America. The charging adapters should be available for Ariya models beginning in 2024, as these models are currently equipped with a Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) designed for fast charging. This will allow the Nissan Ariya users to connect their vehicle’s charging port to the NACS sockets, enabling the Nissan Ariya to be the first vehicle to lead the way to a cleaner, more sustainable future in the automotive industry. Nissan’s goal in incorporating this charging adapter is to establish a faster and more efficient charging system, providing its customers with an optimal charging experience and a breakthrough for the industry as a whole.
“The adoption of the NACS standard underscores Nissan Electric’s commitment to making mobility even more accessible as we pursue our long-term Ambition 2030 vision of further electrification. We are pleased to provide access to thousands more fast chargers for Nissan EV drivers, adding confidence and convenience when planning long-distance trips,” announced Jéremie Papin, president of Nissan Americas.
Nissan plans to roll out electric vehicles equipped with a NACS port to the U.S. and Canadian markets beginning in 2025. Giving more fluidity to the charging system on the Tesla Supercharger network and, in turn providing Nissan customers with more fast charging services for electric vehicles. The adoption of these advanced technologies reaffirms Nissan’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market and demonstrates the company’s commitment to enhancing every customer experience by removing barriers that could prevent consumers from making the shift to electric mobility. The incorporation of NACS technology demonstrates Nissan’s focus on constant innovation and reflects a philosophy of providing superior solutions and convenience to its customers. By adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS), Nissan is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer satisfaction, setting new standards in electric mobility, and advancing its mission to achieve carbon neutrality and have more than 40% of its U.S. vehicle sales be fully electric by 2030 as part of its Ambition 2030 plan.
