Nissan displays the all-new 2023 electric Ariya ready to undertake 17,000 miles in conditions similar to the Arctic from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole. Starting in March, the new Nissan SUV will encounter challenging terrains such as ice fields, deep and thick snow, mountain climbs, and desert dunes. Arctic Trucks is a company that specializes in vehicles designed for polar expeditions. Nissan developed the engineering design of the Ariya so that it could withstand these harsh conditions and push to the end of the challenge.
The new 2023 Ariya features several intentionally minimal modifications, the battery, and powertrain have remained unchanged, but the suspension received a tweak and 39-inch wheels were added. Combining these modifications with Nissan’s new advanced e-4ORCE electric control technology, the Ariya will have the ability to tackle extreme terrain while Chris and Julie are given great comfort and control to make the South Pole without a hitch. Pole-to-pole electric vehicle expedition leader Chris Ramsey is getting access to an espresso machine that has been integrated with a sustainable coffee supply, a confessed coffee lover.
“One of the things that underpins all the adventures we do is that we take a standard production EV and aim to make minimal changes to clearly demonstrate its real, everyday capabilities, regardless of where you are driving it. Our Nissan Ariya is no different as the vehicle’s drivetrain and battery has remained factory standard, demonstrating just how capable and versatile the production Ariya is. We’ve modified the suspension and widened the wheel arches so we can benefit from the stable platform and support of the 39-inch BF Goodrich tyres. I’m incredibly excited to get behind the wheel of what was already a brilliant vehicle, but now feels equipped to take on the ends of the earth in style!” announced Chris Ramsey, Pole to Pole EV Expedition Leader
Chris will capture the beauty of amazing obstacles by using a drone that is launched directly from the roof of the service unit. In the polar regions, the Ariya will be able to receive a battery charge from the innovative portable renewable energy unit. This great portable unit is a prototype that is equipped with a compact, lightweight wind turbine and solar panels, charging the SUV using the strong winds and long daylight hours when Chris and Julie stop to rest.
The 2023 Nissan Ariya that was manufactured for the pole-to-pole adventure is no different, as the vehicle’s powertrain and battery have been kept standard from the factory. Demonstrating just how capable and versatile the production Ariya is and what it can withstand. The 2023 Ariya has new suspension settings that have been modified and the wheel arches widened so that we can benefit from the stable platform and support of the 39″ BF Goodrich tires.
Chris and Julie Ramsey have faced several challenges during the adventure with the tough terrains. Chris and Julie have tested the limits of several electric vehicles during the last 10 years, in this time both explorers have managed to become the first people to overcome the Mongolian Rally. The 17,000 mile journey that Chris and Julie will undertake driving the new Nissan Ariya will take 10 months, during which time both explorers will demonstrate the capability and excitement of electric vehicles and highlight the positive action against the climate crisis.
