Nissan Motorsports Showcased Resilience and Speed at Road America

At Road America, Nissan’s customer teams demonstrated speed and tenacity, adding more podium finishes to their season total. The #5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan Z NISMO GT4 squad continued to build on their recent success at VIR with another impressive performance despite difficult circumstances.

“This was another solid weekend for the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 program, with two of our teams earning podium positions,” said Mike Carcamo, program director, Sports Cars, NISMO Cars and Motorsports, Nissan Motor Corporation. “We look forward to closing out the season at Barber and Indy with more wins, and then shifting our focus to 2025.”

After the car sustained damage during Saturday morning’s qualifying practice, the team endured a difficult start. Nissan Motorsports provided the crew with components and technical assistance, and they fixed the car fast in time for the 5pm race. After starting the class ninth, Damir Hot moved up through the field and passed the baton to Andy Lee, who went on to finish second among the Pro-Am participants. In addition, the team who gained the most spots was awarded the Super Fuel Hard Charger title.

All four of the Nissan cars battled for podium spots in the one-hour race on Sunday morning. The #5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Z matched their Saturday Super Fuel Hard Charger performance, placing a solid fourth, while the #9 Blackdog Racing Z led the charge. The #23 TechSport Racing Z, piloted by Johan Schwartz and Jonathan Neudorf, finished an outstanding second.    

This event provided a fantastic opportunity for Nissan engineers to interact with the Nissan Z NISMO teams and spectators at the track, as the Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) is located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, barely 400 miles away from Road America. The fan activation area was run by engineers from the Nissan Acceleration Team, a motorsports club for Nissan employees. They fielded inquiries and talked about job prospects with Nissan. Nissan has three championship-level customer teams fielding four Nissan Z NISMO racing cars in the Pirelli GT4 America series.
