The Nissan Ariya Helped Raise Funds on National Vinyl Record Day

To commemorate National Vinyl Record Day on August 12 and to raise funds for the National Museum of African American songs (NMAAM), Nissan released Driven by Electric Beats, a limited-edition LP featuring hip-hop songs. Dope Candi and Harold “HB” Burns, two musicians from Nissan’s Electric Beats program,which collaborated with Black musicians to encourage diversity in music production created the album, which was inspired by driving in the morning and evening. 

“In 2023 we had this incredible reaction to the Ariya Lofi Girl commercial. It was four hours long, but people kept coming back to watch it – over 18 million times! There were so many comments about how the music and animation had a calming effect,” said Marisstella Marinkovic, vice president and chief marketing officer, Nissan U.S.

The record is $23 and limited to 1,000 copies, It can be purchased online and in-person at The Groove Nashville and NMAAM’s Amplify Store. Nissan brings lofi music and animation from the digital to the real world, building on the popularity of the four-hour, single-shot ride-along of a woman driving an Ariya through a landscape inspired by Japan, known as Lofi Girl. The Driven by Electric Beats vinyl features an animated zoetrope design that rotates with the album. A man and woman driving the Ariya are seen in artwork on either side of the picture disk, bowing their heads and tapping their fingers in time with the music.

The Driven by Electric Beats album’s two tracks are inspired by driving in the morning and evening as well as the Nissan Ariya’s dual nature, which is both incredibly serene and strong. While Nightscape helps listeners unwind at the end of the day, Electric Dawn inspires and motivates. Nissan made a comeback to the Lofi genre because of the possible benefits to listeners’ well-being. According to studies, listening to lo-fi music might enhance mental performance, reduce tension and anxiety, and help with concentration.1.

A locked groove with a sample of Nissan’s all-electric Ariya’s driving sound appears at the end of each half. An ‘Easter egg’ made possible by the rarity of the vinyl format, this loop plays softly until the listener pauses the record.
